The remodel and rebuild of this Long Beach home centered on creating an open main level that could handle entertaining while giving two of the clients' favorite pieces a real presence: their white baby grand piano and their wine and champagne collection. The piano became one focal point, and a full-height brass-and-glass wine display became another. We kept much of the seating pale to connect visually with the piano, then brought in black accents and repeated brass to give the glamorous direction a stronger, more masculine edge.

That contrast carried into the kitchen, where warm beige cabinetry and counters with a brassy undertone kept the large space from feeling stark. A long island created substantial work and prep space, while extra benches in the living area added seating without crowding the open plan.

Upstairs, the primary bathroom pushed the black-and-white contrast further with marbled-look tile wrapping the steam shower, ceiling, tub surround, and adjacent walls. Using one continuous material across the shower and tub zone made the two areas read as one dramatic composition.
