Because this Anaheim home is registered historic, the kitchen remodel came with preservation restrictions that shaped what we could and could not change. The exterior walls and windows had to remain in place, so instead of solving layout problems by moving openings, we had to rethink the kitchen entirely within the existing architecture. The clients wanted some rustic and farmhouse influence, and the home's original wood flooring gave us an important piece of its character to preserve and restain.

The old plan separated the kitchen from a breakfast nook, and we reorganized those areas into a more unified kitchen while keeping the protected exterior openings intact.

Lighter cabinetry works with the refinished wood floor, while pocket doors provide access to the laundry room and pantry without adding more visual interruption. Much of the transformation came from making the existing footprint work better while respecting the features that could not be changed.
