Amberline

For a young couple in Irvine, we designed a home with the drama and energy they associated with nightlife, while keeping it comfortable enough for everyday living. The double-height entry was meant to make an immediate impression, but the original dark wood wall treatment would have added both cost and construction time. We shifted to dark wallpaper instead, preserving the mood while letting the textured console, accent chairs, and long cascading chandelier stand out.

One of our favorite views is from the lower level up to the landing, which we treated as a feature from both floors with smoky mural-style wallpaper, wood panels, and integrated LED lighting. The four-chair conversation area below became an intimate spot for tea and conversation within the larger open volume. Upstairs, two bookmatched marble slabs for the loft feature wall came up slightly short, so we worked gold fluted panels into the composition rather than purchasing another slab. The added border, marble, and perimeter lighting ultimately gave the wall more depth than the original concept.
